T/C Contender 225 Win Barrel
I recently purchased a 10" Thompson Center Contender Barrel in a 225 Win caliber. I bought this barrel over the internet thinking it was a T/C Custom shop barrel. When I received it I found it to be a conversion from a different caliber. Evidentally done by somebody's gunsmith. Is there any way to check to see if its safe to shoot? I don't want the thing blowing up in my face. I am a gun novice no gunsmithing in my background. Any suggestions appreci

You should always ask questions before you buy stuff anywhere.
The 225 Winchester is a little bit much for a contender unless you keep it loaded down. I surely would not push on it to hard
You sould have a GOOD gunsmith check it out before you shoot it.
If the person that you got it from said it was a custom shop barrel send it back to him ASAP.

I would be very hesitant to shoot a Contender that has been rechambered to 225 Winchester. The 225 Win factory loads have been loaded to be equivalent, pressure wise to the 22-250 Remington, which isn't chambered in the original contender. My 2 cents, if you want to shoot something like the 225 win in a single shot pistol, get an Encore. If you have any misgivings about this, call up cutomer service at Thompson/Center, see what they have to say.

I do not believe that anyone is loading the 225 Win. anymore. If you can find factory ammo for sale it is bringing well over a dollar a round.

Not something I would recommend doing. And, I don't think TC will give you any encouragement here either, not in this day and age.

225 Win was Winchesters modern answer for the 220 Swift. Very minor change in case dimensions. This re-worked 220 Swift did not catch on very well. This is a 220 Swift with a new name, just do not try to chamber 225 in a 220.(common sense) Winchester still loads ammo for the 225 marked rifles. If your favorite A&P don't have, they can still git. 0 -
For what it is worth, Winchester's site currently lists 55gr 225 Win ammo. 0 -
Not a good idea. The T/C Custom shop wont chamber it and niether will most custom barrel makers that specialize in the Contender.
The largest high-intensity 22 caliber round that T/C will put in a contender is the .223rem. Everything else is a larger bore or lower peak pressure type round. Just look at the chamber in your barrel for a second. Now look at the holes on top of the barrel for scope and iron sight mounting. Not much steel between the bottom of these holes and the bore, huh? T/C makes good steel, but think about it for a minute, do you trust so little metal between you and 55,000-57,000 psi? Not me!
I would send it back.
