Contour of a stock?
How can I tell what size barrel fits in a stock? I bought some stuff had a stock in it they knew it was for a remington 597 22lr but didn't know for what barrel size. I tried it on my standard barrel 597 and there was a lot of space between the barrel and stock so I'm guessing its for a bull barreled 597 but how can I be sure?

Normal clearance on a floated barrel is about .015.
Any more than that wont be a problem, other than things hiding in there.
The only way to be SURE is to try a HB 597 barrel in it [:)]
