CB cap .22 short question. Safe in auto?
I know you can do it safely from a revolver, but is it OK to fire a CB cap .22 short from a .22 long rifle auto pistol like a Ruger or High Standard?
I know it won't cycle the action. And I know it won't feed through the mag.

Sure, I do it all the time testing weapons inside. Since you know it won't feed or cycle, you're fine.

Hello You will not damage the gun but you might build up carbon deposit at the end of the short case if you shoot a bunch and then neglect to clean the chamber you could have feed chambering and extraction problems when you switch back to long rifle. 0 -
A .22 CB Cap can safely be fired in ANY firearm chambered for .22 Short, .22 Long, or .22 Long Rifle.
The .22 CB Cap and BB Cap were primarily designed as "indoor" target cartridges, and are very anemic.

note what bert h said, if its marked for short long or long rifle its ok. and most cases, that applies to rifles. hi stds arent marked that way. they are marked 22LR. the bullets wont be seating into the lands and grooves properly. besides, you dont expect it to feed out of a 22LR mag do you? i say NO. dont screw with perfection. thats something a ruger mk2 owner would do.[xx(] 0 -

Don't worry Bob, the only ammo I deem *worthy* of going in my Hi-Standard has the words "target" and ".22LR" on the package!
Not only would I not expect CBs to feed from the magazine, OR eject, OR cycle, I also wouldnt expect any real accuracy beyond maybe 5-7 yds.
I was just wondering if it is even possible to shoot them from an auto, figuring they might make good "training" rounds for people generally intimidated by guns.0 -
you dont train a dog to heal to a 22 cal, then take him shotgun bird hunting......train your beginners with what they will always shoot. and rest assure, if they flinch to a 22, game over on anything bigger!
