.223 vs. 5.56X44 NATO
Is the .223 Remington identical to the NATO 5.56x45mm M193? I came across this warning on a web page, and the warning has caused me to rethink a planned purchase of a Remington 700 chambered in .223. If I can't shoot NATO ammo through the Remington, I won't buy the rifle and just stick with my AR-15 clone.
Here's the warning I found---what's the story??
** In 1979, SAAMI cautioned shooters that the 5.56x45mm military chambers and throats differ from the 223 Remington sporting rifle chambers. Therefore military ball ammo may produce high chamber pressures in sporting rifles.

It is inadvisable to shoot 5.56x45(NATO) in a .223 Rem firearm, but the vice-cersa is fine per most manufacturers. 5.56 is hotter and chambers little different, making pressures increase becasue of that as well. 0
