Beretta 70s problem

If I might pick your brains with a Beretta 70S .22 problem. Some months ago, I picked up an immaculate 70s --it had hardly been fired, just stored. I cleaned it, lubed it , and put about 100 rounds through it as a break in. Every mag would have a failure to feed/ or the slide would hang open and not strip the shell into the chamber. Took it to a gunsmith and he beveled the lips of the mag after noticing that there were small burrs along the edge. He polished the ramp and beveled the area below the ramp to improve the feeding angle.

Today at the range, the feeding was excellent in the sense that there were no stovepipes, yet the slide would still lock open and not strip the shell---I could hit the slide release lever and it would push it cleanly into the chamber. I'm not sure if I need a recoil spring or some part associated with the slide release. A dealer offered me an excellent price for it and I'm down to my last attempt at fixing it. Any suggestions??

    Try different brands of ammo. Various Hi-Velocity types MIGHT? function better in the Beretta.

    In 22 L.R., I'm a great fan of the various flavors of C.C.I. I shoot Blazers and Stingers almost exclusively.

    Is the magazine you're using an original Beretta? Beretta will have their name on it if it is.

    Since working on the magazine made a difference, and since you say the current problem -- slide locking open -- can be currected by pressing the slide release, I'd guess that the magazine/rounds are interfering with the slide stop. You want to look very carefully at the situation when it is "locked" open (this is most safely done if you use dummy rounds -- be extremely careful if using live rounds), see if there is interference at the slide stop.

    the beretta 70 in 22, 32 or 380 is probally the best single action auto ever made ...I have 2 beat up looking model 70's they are flawless ,the 22 shoots best with winchester 22 super X solids , like the other guy said they only will work with original P.B mags ..which are hard to find , I have seen them on flea-bay ..I would also add a new recoil spring as who ever had the pistol before you may have changed it & installed the wrong spring ..give it a try its worth it as no 22 can come close to a Beretta model 70

    In case you all don't know yet Bersa M-644 magazines work flawlessly in Beretta M-70 (cheaper too). Have M-70 and works great with these magazines. Have sold lots of these magazines over the years and no bad reports on problems with Beretta M-70's. Lots better than the Triple K make.
