Sar-1 or Mini-30?
I have been looking to get a gun in the 7.62x39 cal. and I narrowed it down to these two rifles but I just can't make up my mind so I wanted to hear what other people had to say.

I say the SAR-1 I think its more reliable than the mini-30. The one I had would eat any ammo I feed it. 0 -
SAR-1 no question about it. Ruger has a generally anti 2nd ammendment attitude. AK mags are cheap. AK's look cool, AK's are dead nuts reliable. The mini-30 has poor accuracy on a good day.

SAR-1 Rugers are built like a brick poophouse however when you look inside them they are still filled with poop.
Not to mention a SAR-1 will never missfire never jam and never need to be cleaned er well you can clean it but you dont have to...... heh I clean mine every 500 rounds or so no rust yet.0 -

So many people slam Ruger for their perceived "anti-second amendment attitude". But EVEN if that is true, no one yet has claimed that Ruger has a "abolish the second amendment" attitude.
Ruger has for decades designed, manufacturered and sold (as consumer friendly prices) excellent guns. Many of which are obviously designed for civilian sales and interest (.22 Mark 1 for just one example).
JMHO, but we pro-gun people have a severe shortage of "friends". In my opinion, REGARDLESS if Ruger has a different view of the second amendment than I do, Ruger is still a citizen gun friendly company. A company that has donated hundreds of thousands of dollars and merchandise to help pro-citizen gun rights groups fight for our rights.
So come on people, please don't lash out so severely and so often at one of the few friends we have. All of us pro-gun people, including Ruger, are on the same bus trying to get to the same destination. Just because Ruger decides to sit on one side of the bus and some of us decide to sit on the other side, does not make any of us enemies.
Of you want to rag on someone, direct it towards Sara Brady, Charles Schumer, Dianie Feinstein, Ted Kennedy, Hillery and Billery Clinton, etc.

Neither is a tack driver, they both work well. Ok mayber Ak is a little more reliable then the mini, but not by much. In many ways I like my SKS as well or better then either my mini or Ak. My SKS will out shoot both of the others. So you have to chose depending on our intended use and want. If having a assault looking weapon is cooler then one that looks like a rifle, then go for it. I suspect that when faced with someone, with an AK, asking if they can shoot varmints on their property, owner may often refuse. Where as someone packing a normal looking rifle may not send up the same sort of concerns. Still, it's your choice, they will all work. 0 -
SAR-1. You can modify this gun with less money than the Mini 30. Cheaper Hi-cap mags, folding stock, flash supressor, scopes and more.
Go with the SAR1. my 2 cents [8D]

I love my Mini-30, and I really want a SAR-1 also. I think you should get both before you decide on one. I hope that helps.

I own both, and I really like them for different purposes. As said, neither is greatly accurate and the AK benefits from being rugged, but the mini-30 is just fun to shoot, IMO. I agree with Ben in that you should buy both. 0 -
Get both, if just one the Mini 30. I own Sar 3 amd 2 mini 14s. Buy the 30, USA made, depedable as hell, and also if you need to "dress it up" you can. IMO. nambu 0
