marlin model 97 restoration
my grandfather gave me an absolutely perfect condition Marlin 97 .22 when i was 10 years old, he didnt have any idea of the value and, being a 10 year old, neither did i, i decided that i did not like the case coloring on the receiver so i took a can of brasso and made it "shiny". i know that refinishing the rifle would hurt the collector value but since i never intent to sell the rifle i just want to reverse my mistake. what is the best route to go as far as obtaining an original finish on this rifle? also, what do you estimate as to the value of the rifle, the bore is PERFECT bright and shiny with crisp rifling, the wood has not a single scratch or dent and the blueing on the barrel is at least %98.

you can have the receiver re-case hardened, probably cost< $100 & well worth it considering the otherwise good condition of the rifle. I've had Ed Szafranski do several guns and like his work (608-221-3008). 0 -
When the received has been re-case hardened, I would consider it a rifle equal to "good" condition or maybe a little better and a value of $650 would be about right. Sounds like a nice one, do take Mike Whiskey's good advice 0
