? on 550-1 remington
I have got a friends 550-1 that I am cleaning for him. I don't think that it has ever been apart or aleast not clean inside.I am having a problem getting the barrel off. It looks like there is a pin in the top of the receiver or a screw that is broke that might hold the barrel on but I don't know. It should not have a pin in it but I can not tell what it is. Does anybody know if this is a screw and how to get the barrel off?

Hello you dont need to remove the barrel to clean 0 -
I know I don't have to but this thing is full of junk. I don't think this gun has ever been really cleaned. The bolt had so much residue that it did not slide back very well. There is grime all in the receiver. This gun needs to be completely broke down and cleaned. 0 -

Leave the barrel on, but take the floating chamber out for cleaning if you wish. 
Some guys like a mag full of lead, I still prefer one round to the head.0 -
When I get serious about cleaning my 550-1, I take all the moving parts out of the receiver, leaving just the barrel and the receiver as a piece, then I take a gallon size zip-lock bag, place the barreled action in it so that the entire action and the first inch or two of barrel is in the bag. Then pour enough Hoppe's 9 to cover the receiver and chamber, then let soak for a day so so. Remove and scrub with a brush all parts that you can get to. Then blast with compressed air. It should be clean enough to pass inspection. 0
