Who made this automatic
I just inherited a small frame automatic from my father, who in turn received it from my grandfather, who we believe, got it while in Europe during World War I.
Markings are "765 1911 Model Automatic Pistol" with a line under the 65. (7.65 mm) Underneath that text is the phrase " 'VICTRORIA' Patent ". On the barrel as seen thru the shell ejection hole is "Hope" with a sidways underlined "PG" and Crown or Flower.
On the bottom of the handle on either side of the clip release is a single star. Next to the safety lever is the label "SUR" with a "^" over the "u". There is a "EU" in an oval on the side rear of the frame on the same side as the safety. The EU has a line over the top and under the botom of the EU inside the oval. There is a lanyard loop in the safety side of the handle near the bottom of the handle. The handles are tightly checkered dark wood. The two clips are loaded with .32 Caliber ammunition.

Zhuk's "Illustrated Encyclopedia of Handguns" has a Spanish pistol (#2484 on page 274) which is a 765 1911 Model Automatic Pistol "Victoria". It is probably one of the myriads of Spanish semi-automatic pistols bought by the French during WWI. Value will depend on how much original finish is left on this gun, though even in really primo condition, it probably wouldn't hit $200. Lots of sentimental value though. I would hang on to it, shoot it occasionally, and enjoy it. 0 -
Your pistol is the forerunner of the Astra Pistol. Prior to being marked with the more common Astra name they are found with the "Victoria" and "Hope" markings. This would probably date your pistol to production during the early years of W W 1.
The French Army was equipped with this type of Spanish produced .32 Caliber Pistol as one of there standard sidearms. It has come to be known to collectors with the generic name of "Ruby Type Pistol", no matter who the Spanish manufacturer was.
Your pistol has the characteristic markings of a pistol made for French military use.
