Buying a DPMS AR, but which options?
It was between a Bushmaster or a DPMS and DPMS won. The DPMS just seemed to be a better value for what my son and I wanted. I'm right handed, he's a lefty. DPMS has the shell deflector. DPMS gives you 2 high caps. We wanted a flat top varmint/target, so we didn't need the Bushmaster "Black Rifle" authenticity. We're going to use it for 90% target, off a bipod between 100-300yds, and maybe 10% varmint hunting. I actually have the funds available to buy in the next week. Here are my questions.
1. 20" or 24" barrel?
2.Is there an advantage to a stainless steel verses chrome moly barrel?
3. Fluted or not?
4. 1:8 or 1:9 rifleing?
5. Is there any advantage to buying it with the bipod or just get one on our own?
6. Anything else we should consider?
Thanks

My advise. Post this on http://www.ar15.com and you will get more responses.
Also, there is an excellent article over there that discusses twist rate for rifling and their practical applications.0
