Colt Factory Rework

Can some one answer or tell me where to go to find out about Colt Factory ReWork. I am looking at an old Colt Peacmaker that was supposed to have some factory rework done on it. It has an ampersand (&) stamped into it. What does this do to the value of the revolver and how much rework/type can be done at the factory?
