the difference seems to be the cast lead cowboy bullet shooters like the ballard because it is a deeper "cut" rifling and the micro groove is more shallow and "finer" button cut. I like the micro grove with jacketed bullets.

I could never understand why people thought the shallow grooves were bad for cast bullets. There were many black powder shallow groove rifle patterns like Pope's and Henry's. They worked great with cast bullets. The only reason deep grooves would work better would be if you were shooting hard cast bullets at high velocity.

One other thing. Ballard rifling is a total misnomer. Ballard did not use a proprietary rifling form.
