Remington or Ruger 2 Questions 2nd Edition -Thanks
Well I did it! And thanks for all of the input to help me decide.
I purchased the Ruger 10/22 in .22WMR
Not everyone has this in stock and I had to look in all the firearms stores here in Myrtle Beach, SC.
Since I am retired I have to squeeze a buck so I will share the pricing.
Ruger list is $506, Walmart retail is $333. but they are on back order probably 3 or 4 weeks wait.[xx(] A full service shop with range here had one in stock and retail was $499.[B)] -would not budge on price. The other full service shop with range said they could order on and their best price was $469.
I purchased this rifle at Bass Pro Shop here in Myrtle Beach for $379.95 less 10% ($38.00)because I opened their branded charge card so my cost was $342.00 plus tax!!![:D][:D][:D]
I would have liked to have supported the local shops but it woud have cost me $127.-$150.[B)]
If Bass Pro Shops can do it for $379. I would have thought the locals should have been able to do it for around $400. and I would have paid it.
What is a fair discount off of list?[?]

The shop owner should have matched it, he thinks he's loosing money by lowering the price but how much is he loosing by not selling the rifle at all?
I once was told by a gunshop owner that he would not do transfers on any new rifle that he can get because he's loosing money by me getting it on the internet as opposed to buying from him, he seemed quite confused when I said I wouldn't even purchase his gun at his much higher price anyway so why not do the transfer and get $20 for doing almost nothing?
I never understand the idea that to make ends meet you have to sell high, why not sell low {as possible} and sell more, I would rather sell 10 guns in a day and profit $150 and gain some customer loyalty as opposed to selling 1 gun for the same $150 profit, JMHO. Please tell me where I'm wrong.0 -

My thoughts exactly!!!!!!!!!!! My local shop owner says he will do a transfer, but his price is $50.00!!!!!! He stated the reason he is so high is to deter people from buying on the internet. If that is logical thinking for a businessman then I give up. Gouging the consumer to create more in house business???????????? I don't get it. I'd rather make a transfer, at a reasonable price, and keep the customer coming in and sell to him in the future. Needless to say, he has never transferred a gun for me.
Maybe this goes without saying......he is way overpriced on 99% of his guns. For example, I just bought a "Henry Big Boy" off of Gunbroker for $510.00 + $15.00 shipping. His quoted price for the gun was $649.00 + tax. That's only $60.00 or so below the suggested retail price. The reason I say he is overpriced on 99% of his guns because I did catch him in a rare mood one day and got a 44 mag Ruger Vaquero for a really good price. He rarely has these moods.

My ffl charges $20 so i told him to keep the gun that arrived until the other 4 i bought did and do it in one transaction. they really shouldn't charge anything except for the background check fee and whatever it costs to print copies of the ffl. you can get your own FFL for $200 so 4 transfers at $50 a pop would warrant that and then you could make money off people like yourself who the dealer is charging $50. I was going to buy one of the Ruger 10/22 mags and was going to do it until i spun the Wal-mart case around and saw the marlin for half the price in stainless. so being the cheap person that i am I went with the Marlin. they are hard to beat in 22 and 22 mag though, but so is the 10/22.
