AR10 / AR15
i'm interested in a plinking / hog hunting ar type rifle. Without getting into a brand specific peeing contest , i'm interested in knowing 1.) what kind of accuracy can one expect with both 308 and 223 and 2.) what about barrel composition / length (e.g. carbine barrel failures) 3. I'm a lefty and want to know if any other southpaws shoot these rifles any complications/concerns?
Thanks

Which one is it? Hog hunting or Plinking? For pigs, I would go with the AR-10, but for plinking .223 is much cheaper. If you don't mind sacrificing some velocity (and accuracy due to the shorter sight radius), the shorter barrels are handier. If you want a long-range tack-driver, go with an AR-10(T); I believe Armalite gaurantees 1/2MOA. Can't really answer your southpaw question, but if the ejection port is next to your face when you shoulder the gun then the answer should be obvious.

JMD...... I have a half dozen AR's. One is a left hand version I built with one of the DPMS left hand uppers. It shoots great, and I use it in 3-gun competition all the time. I put a 20" barrel on it mainly because the B.D.C. (bullet drop compensator) in the ACOG is set for velocities from a 20".
My right hand AR's have never been a problem as the brass is always deflected straight out or forward, but there is a potential exposure if an out of battery shot goes off. I have never had that happen in the tens of thousands of rounds I have fired in them.
I dont own an AR-10, all of my .308's are Springfield M1A's and an FAL.
