mossberg 500A/590

newbie here. just picked me up a mossberg 500A 12 ga. but it looks just like the 590 on some pictures. but on the bottom it says 500A. can someone tell me the difference between the two guns and what kind of ammunition is recommended? thanks in advance.

    The 590 and 500 are identical in function but the 590 has extra magazine capacity. 590 and 500 barrels are not interchangeable.

    Ammunition depends on your purpose.

    If it moves, salute it. If it doesn't move, pick it up. If you can't pick it up, paint it.

    i can get 5 in the mag and the 6 one jams the spring and the cap. how many does the 500 hold?

    cool thanks for the information. on my rem. 870 though when i try to cram to many shells it just wont take it. but the moss jams. the spring gets stuck. shouldn't it just not take it? when the 6th one gets pushed in there, (it will only go halfway) the spring and cap gets jammed. is there a way to stop that? during speed loading i'm in the habit of not counting the rounds on my 870, but i really don't like having to count as i load and the fact that it jams. thanks in advance.

    I have never had a problem with my moss 500 jamming. Mine just dosn't take the 6th shell

    Try removing the mag cap and see if there's a small wooden dowel inside the mag tube. My 500 had a shortened "hunting stick" in there that limited me to just 6 ("hunting sticks" are supposed to limit the mag capacity to 3 shells for use while bird hunting).
