7.62x54R ammo question

what caliber round does this compare to. As a matter of fact can someone tell me a site i can book mark that i can cross reference caliber and mm? then i won't have to keep posting these questions. thanks,

    I have search high and low locally to find 7.62x54r soft point and can't find them. I have ordered some on-line.

    But opening day for rifles is tomorrow. Can I modify the tips of this Hungarian ammo in any way to get better expansion?

    Similar to a .308 (7.62X51 NATO), but the 7.62X54R is rimmed.

    Can't give you a site but what you need is a copy of Cartridges of the World, 10th edition.

    7.62x54R is a much older design than .308NATO. It's probably better to think of this as like the .30-40Krag or .30-06. Even the German 7.92 is more in the ballpark, though with a larger caliber.

    calamity, if this sort of question comes to you frequently then I suggest you follow up on He Dog's recomendation. CotW is a good general reference on ammunition although it does have some factual errors, typically in reference to dates and firearms associated with the history of a particular cartridge.

    While there are some exceptions (mostly naming issues), the following numbers will be close enough for doing conversions.

    Keep in mind that eastern 7.62mm cartridges typically use .311" bullets, so do not try to load the .308" projectiles that are commonplace in the U.S.

    It's easy to spot liberals-they are the ones who have no assets to protect and need every handout they can get. They have forbeyed themselves ascendence to a productive lifestyle.
