9mm AR Question
If I wanted to put a collapsible stock on a 9mm AR15, in place of the A2 standard stock....do I need a different buffer?
Looks like all the action springs are the same?
Thanks.

Take it to www.ar15.com. I'll take a shot at this. The olympic arms system uses a standard AR lower with all standard parts. The colt system has a different buffer, and I believe a different hammer. I know the oly will work fine with a standard buffer, but I'm not real sure about the colt system. 0 -

???
He wants to switch between an A2 stock and a collapsable stock... YES, he does need a buffer which is made for the collapsable stock (shorter length)... Oly, Colt, makes no difference... length of buffer tube does make a difference!

Thanks guys. Yea, I just wanted to know if I needed a 9mm-specific buffer, or if I could use the one that came with my collapsible stock. In other words, is the buffer different because its for the stock or for the caliber? So, looks like it's the length of the tube that matters, rather than the caliber.
Kinda like a cooler....how does it know? [:)]0 -
Yes, the 9mm Colt does take a buffer specific for the 9mm, long one for full stock, short one for collapsible stock. Brownells part no. 160-307-101 FITS: AR-15 Carbine, 9mm; AR-15 Match Target Lightweight, 9mm this is a Colt part.

no, any buffer would work... if it's a collapsable one use the short buffer, full stock use the long one. Caliber doesn't matter. Here are 2 of my 9mm ARs... one subgun and one machine pistol... the subgun is a Colt pattern gun, the machine pistol is an Olympic pattern.
