Mounting new scope

After destroying my old scope with the recoil sliding the scope forward until the rings hit the windage adjustment, over time destroying the scope, I am wondering what I can do to prevent it with my new scope? Is there a technique, like putting something between the scope rings and scope, to hold it in place better??? Tape,or maybe "lock tite"?

    Don't misunderstand, I had the scope rings tightened down pretty hard, but it still slid.
    And while I am at it, can you tighten them too hard and damage the scope that way as well?

    And I should clarify, the sliding took place over about 100 rounds...

    Hello first make sure you get all oil off the rings and scope then get some double sided tape or you can use rosen from a rosen bag some rings hold better then others but you need to make sure you don't crush your NEW scope

    There is a tremendous variety in scope mounting rings/bases these days. What are you currently using for bases, rings and scope? The few times that I had scopes move like that I ended up curing the problem by throwing the rings away. Quality rings like Weaver, Warne, Redfield, Leupold and Burris when used with quality scopes, like Leupold, Burris and the like rarely shift like that. I've also got my fair share of gun show specials, but I keep them on soft kicking rifles like .22 & .223 as there they aren't asked to do much. When everythings fits up well, then even my 338winmag's scope is rock solid.

    This is just for a Ruger Mini-30, and an old one at that. The scope isn't new, but newer than I had and in new shape. Standard Ruger scope rings on a Redfield 3x9x40 identical to the old one.
    Double sided tape? Does that work? How about super glue? Or am I kidding myself... I would rather not spend on new rings if I can.

    I would replace the rings with Warnes personally, but with either the Ruger or Warne (or any other) rings, I would lap the rings to get a better fit and greater friction surface to grip the scope.

    Order a set of Burris Signature rings, and say goodbye to your problems for ever. No need to do any lapping, or whatever, just put them on and forget it.
    Double sided tape can be a help if you use regular style rings.

    Gun control is hitting what your aiming at.
