khar k9 -vs- glock 26
I can use some help. I'm a police officer and im looking for an offduty weapon. I can only carry the khar k9 or the glock 26. Is one an all around better weapon? I tryed to do research online with no luck. any advice would help...

t0ycannon: First let me say welcome to GB. Both are very fine hand guns and you will be very well served with ither. The Khar has been discribed in the past as a steal glock then the P-9 came out [:)]. They both function the same way. My advise is to shoot them both and see what feels best you you or which you are more accurate with. What is your Primary duty hand gun? again, WELCOME to GB [8D]

Thanks for the welcome... my Primary is a s&w 4956 9mm. The khar feels better in my hand but the glock holds more rounds. I'm hearing lots of talk about the p-9, but i cant carry it due to the department i work for. I work in plain clothing so the weapon needs to be CONCEALABLE. so what do you think? k-9 or 26?

I would go with the Khar. Flater hand gun and how many rounds do you need in the mag and you will have a second mag close by? Volume of ammunition has never been a primary concern of mine. Again I say welcome. [8D]

I don't know anything about the Khar, but with the Glock, you'll have to buy some mag extensions to make it fit your hand. If you could carry the Glock 19, the grip would fit your hand, and it's just as concealable as the 26. The barrel's only 1/2 inch longer.

I agree. If it must the Glock, go for the 19. When it was my turn I picked that way too. Actually I picked the model 23 over the model 27. If you leave the Glock 26 alone, without the magazine extension it will be hard to shoot or control, even with small hands. And, by the time you put in the mag. extension it will be approximately the same size as the 19/23.
My real choice in your case, if the higher cost of the Kahr is not a problem, would be the Kahr. The Kahr is smaller, but more important flatter in profile, making it truely easy to conceal. The Kahrs also come in with one flush magazine for maximum concealment and a second magazine which is slightly longer, which gives you a full grip and one extra round. The Kahr has a single stack magazine, while the Glock has a double stack, and that accounts for the extra thickness of the Glock. I would go for the Kahr PM-9 or Kahr PM-40 which are the smallest and lightest of any similar guns. Their quality is excellent.

I am a big fan of the G26 having purchased one in late 1995. I have large hands and with a grip extension it is too small of a grip surface and uncomfortable to fire.
It takes some getting used to, but curling your little finger under the bottom of the grip becomes natural. With that grip, the gun is easily controlled. My G26 is quite accurate.
Bottom line as said before, shoot both and buy the one that feels good in your hands...The Glock fits mine, the K9 does not.

The K9 is very easily concealable. I sometimes carry one, and it doesn't print much at all in SOB. The downside is definitely mag capacity, but if you get a double mag pouch and carry 21rds, I think that should keep you set. K9's a good shooter, feels good in the hands, and has functioned well for me through 500+rds without malfunction.
I don't know much about glocks though. Good luck on your decision.0 -
I own both the Glock 9 of them and 3 Kahrs, K-9, P-9 & MP-9. I also shoot them a lot. I have had trouble with all of the Kahrs and I am in the process of saleing them all. If I am going to stake my life on a Gun then it will be a Glock or a revolver. I also know other people who have had trouble with thier Kahrs. Most of my problems have been with trigger return springs.

I would go with the glock, not that I dont like Kahr's but you have many more upgrade options with the glock, not to mention Hi-cap mags. Why not look into the kel-tec p11, its lighter than both of those other guns and smaller than the glock, its about the same size as the kahr but holds 10+1 rounds. Its not as polished as the others but functions just as reliably in my opinion, also it costs less than half what the glock costs and almost a third of the kahr. Why does a BUG need to be "pretty".

I'm a retired LEO and wish we had had that choice. I was with the People's Republic of Palo Alto. We were at first (up to the mid 1980s) allowed only to carry a Smith Model 19 with .38+P ammo and no .357 stuff. Then we went to Smith 9mms. That was it.
I have a Kahr MK40. It has functioned flawlessly. It is really concealable (the MK9 is about the same size). But, the weight of the stainless steel pistol can get a little heavy after a number of hours. Also you have to practice to get the double action only trigger down. With Glocks it seems as if people love or hate them. I like the trigger of the Glock better than the Kahr but I like the feel and function of the Kahr better. I was told by a gunsmith that on some of the Kahrs, the slide would not stay back after the last round was fired. A police gunsmith told me they had firing pin and other problems with their Glocks. Who knows. I would prefer the Kahr but certainly would give the Glock a good looking over as well (I paid $535 out the door for my new Kahr).0 -

it looks like half the people are saying khar and the other half glock. Like i said i like the feel of the khar much better. The glock feels small to me. I'm still up in the air. there was one clear better weapon 0 -
Colt produced the Pocket nine ( which is almost identical to the Kahr ) and quit producing them because of a lawsuit with Kahr. I carried the Pocket nine cause it was real accurate and light. Only 6 rounds in the mag plus one in the barrel. Would be curious if your dept. has Glocks? If so you should be familiar with them.. which is a plus. I have shot the Kahrs and they are fine guns also. BTW.. the two selected are on my list also to choose from but I am not all that familiar with glocks.. 0
