Should Action Be Sitting Directly On Pillars??
I have a Duramax stock with 2 steel or aluminum pillars.I noticed that my action is barely resting on the pillars as they are a little below or embedded in the plastic stock.
Should i sand the plastic stock around the pillars so my action sits directly on the 2 steel / aluminum pillars?? It's like the manufacturer didn't set them up high enough so action sits on them correctly..

Your action should be touching both pillars equally and without stress. That's the reason for pillars. If you have a round action such as the Remington, then the contact will be a straight line right down the middle of each pillar and that's all. It's the result of a circle touching a flat. If you think that the receiver isn't touching then send or take the stock back to the seller. Do not try to fix something that is wrong from the factory. You might have to send it back to Bell and Carlson but check to be sure first.
I pillar and bed a barreled receiver into a stock with the end result showing a thin metallic line in the bedding where each pillar is supposed to be, unless the top of the pillars is shaped to conform to that particular receiver such as the Remington in which case they will have a radius on the top of the pillar.

Should i scrape the plastic off so it is below the 2 pillars then bed it with epoxy??
I have had the stock 2 years now,and never looked close enough to notice.It currently shoots 1" groups and i am just trying to get slightly better groups [:)]0 -
If there isn't a big difference between the pillars and the stock, you can use sandpaper and a large diameter dowel to sand some of that plastic away. But it needs to be done for the diameter of the action not just on top of the area where the pillars are located. The receiver area needs to be sanded anyway so that the epoxy will stick. Be sure to degrease any area thoroughly before using epoxy. This applies to a stock that doesn't require significant removal of material because it can result in changing the relationship between other parts such as the trigger and the receiver screws.
If you have questions, consult your gunsmith. If you haven't done this kind of thing before, read first and be very sure that you understand the process. If you don't, you can 'glue' your receiver into the stock permanently.
