Turk: Rework Gew. 98
I have an rework german mauser. I was thinking about take an PH barrel in the 308win. and have the threads removed to fit the rework receive. Then the 30-06 will clean up the 308win. but will the action and the arear where the barrel threads are going to be strong enought?

If you're talking about one of the British takeoff military target barrels I'm not too sure it will work. Those have a sort of flange where they butt up to the front ring and if you take it off it won't leave much of a shoulder. Some say you only need contact at the interior C-ring inside the front ring but with a heavy barrel you'll have better results with contact at the front action face also.

I was thinking of taking the back of the barrel off that hit the inner shoulder, not the front ring shoulder arear. This way it will clean up the 308 win. chamber.

Weather it is a german large ring thread or a turk small ring thread the action should be more then enough for a 30-06, unless there has be some damage to the heat treat and overall integrety of the metal of the receiver. I don't know anything about the barrel you are asking about, but good quality 30-06 barrels can be had for under $150. So why screw around with cutting and threading when you can just pick up an aftermarket? 0
