Colt Gov't 45 info wanted
I just acquired a Colt Government 45 and I'm hoping to learn a little more about it before I decide what to do with it. I'll describe it the best I can. It's in very nice condition, certainly never abused, retaining about 30-40% of it's original blueing, wood grips in excellent condition, and marked as follows: on the right side, "GOVERNMENT MODEL, below that: C 120784 Further up the slide COLT AUTOMATIC CALIBRE 45 on the left side: PATENED APR 20,1897,SEPT.9,1902 below that DEC.19,1905,FEB.14,1911,AUG.19,1913 The "prancing pony" Then, COLT'S PT.FA. MFG.CO. HARTFORD,CT.U.S.A. Just curious of what year it was manufactured and what the approximate value is. Any and all help will be appreciated.

Hello your pistol made 1919 . While most collectors would love to find pistols with 90% plus orginal finish you pistol is still of value ; How much is hard to say with out hands on .The metals in this gun were not up to the hardness of later models but workmanship can not be faulted. Dont try to TRICK out this pistol but rather keep and shoot as is or sell and use the money to buy a later production pistol. "PRAISE THE HARDBALL GUN" 0 -
It is a commercial gun made in 1920. With so little finish left, it is not really collectible. But, as a shooter, it is probably worth $400-500.

NMyers knows his stuff for sure, but I can tell you if put on auction it would fetch more than $4-500. I was in the market for an early era well used Colt .45 GOVT and never saw one on here go for less than about $700, just my observation. 0
