1895 Mauser information
If anyone can give me some ideas on this rifle as far as year manufactured, value and any other information. I'd appreciate it if at all possible. Here's some pics. The serial number should be in the pic starting with a B. Sorry for the bad pics but this was as good as it got. It said Mauser Chileno Modelo 1895. Manufactura Loewe Berlin. Serial # B1314(with a shield looking thing underneath the serial number by bolt action and under the mag spring, by front screw it has serial number with a circle with an X in the middle of it. How about the year manufactured or close to. I'm wondering if I made a good buy or not. I would say it's probably in about 70% condition but the bore doesn't look like it's been fired. The bore is in about 95% condition.

My reference notes that your rifle was made by Loewe for the Chilean's between 1897 & 1900. There were (3) models, Long Rifle, Short Rifle and Carbine. Your pictures don't show on my puter. Value would depend on which version you have. Do a GOOGLE search on Mauser Rifles, lots of info is there if you dig for it.0 -

It's definately the long rifle. I have to use a shotgun case to carry this bad boy. I'm kind of waiting to see what you guys think before I reveal what I paid for it. I don't want it to bias your thinking process. I will let you guys know after the next post of info. And again, I appreciate all your guys help.

Sight unseen, at 70% I'ld call it between $100 & $150. If it's factory original and all matching.0 -
All numbers match. I paid $100 for it at Cabela's. What's $410 "internet special" mean?

You got a great deal.
"Internet Auction Special" means you see these old military guns, the Chilean Mauser in particular, going for $400+ at internet auction sites. I don't see how these dealers can put up prices like that with a straight face, but, somebody must pay it or they wouldn't do it.
I see these Chilean Mausers on a reasonable gun forums for $225 to $275.
One reason yours is more valuable is that Ludwig Loewe Chilean Mausers are by Federal law considered to be "antiques". This means they are exempt from control by the ATF. In other words, you could advertise it on the internet and ship it straight to a guy without having to have an FFL involved.

I still shoot mine - when I was a kid I cut it down to 16" (needed to make it a saddle gun), crowned & ramped the front, put a Redfield receiver sight on it and have been shooting it ever since! That was 45 years ago! It's a sweet little gun and it shoots as flat as a pancake! My eldest grandson is kinda take'n a hanker'n to it now and I hope he gets his 50 years out if it before he passes it on!
Incidentally, it cost me $19.95 from some gun catalog house up in LA! I mowed quite a few lawns for it!0
