Nat. Ord Inc. "Springfield 1903 30-06

I have a "Springfield" 1903 30-06 Cal. with the following markings: Nat. Ord. Inc. 1903, SN 6001495. The weapon has been sportarized with a customized wooden stock with a semi-hard rubber butt plate and a Redfield rear site. I purchased the weapon in 1964 from the original Hialeah Gun Shop in Hialeah Florida and worked the weapon into an immaculate sporting rifle. It is accurate at 300++ yards. (All in the Black) and is tapped for a full scope.

I am aware of the fact customized versions of this exact same model were used in Viet Nam as a snipers rifle (Preferred).

I have been attempting to find a true history of the weapon (before 1964)without success. Can anyone tell me when the National Ordinance year of manufacture was? How many Springfield models did Nat. Ord. Inc. manufacture?

    NATIONAL ORDINANCE NEVER PRODUCED ANY MILITARY 1903'S/ A3'S. THEY DID MAKE SOME RECEIVERS AND ASSEMBLED RIFLES WITH THEM USING SURPLUS PARTS. QUALITY WAS SPOTTY AT BEST. TO MY KNOWLEGE (NOT THAT GREAT AT TIMES) THE ARMY OR MARINES NEVER USED THE 03/A4 IN 'NAM. A FEW M-1C/D'S AND THE MILITARY WIN. M-70'S FOR SNIPING.

    Your rifle was one 22,500 assembled by National Ordnance in El Monte CA. This was during the mid 60's/early 70's. They used GI parts and aftermarket receivers.

    I can't give you the exact date of production? though my reference notes the above dates.

    Your going to have to trust me on this, The U.S. military never used National Ordnance 03A3's.
