Remington Model 760 & 7600?

Howdy all! I have an older Model 760. What is the difference between the model 760 and the model 7600? Are the parts interchangeable? And is there a way that I can tell how old this rifle actually is? Thanx Paul!

    Difference is in the lock up system. 760 has several small lugs. 7600 has a couple of large ones. Some of the parts are interchangeable, but not many. How old is it??? On the left side of the barrel just in front of the receiver is a code consisting of 2 or threee letters. This
    indicates when the barrel was made. If you post the letter codes some one here can tell you the manufacture date.

    Bt99 The only letters that I could find, which is on the opposite side of the Remington patten numbers next to the breech are, "PEP". They look a little distorted and could either say: "REP" or "BEP". But I believe "PEP" is it! Also, where can I download a manual for this firearm? The remington site didn't offer one. Thanx! Paul

    Not many parts, if any at all will interchange between the 760 and the 7600. The butt stock is about the only thing that can be then only a early 7600. As for the date of manuf. look on the LEFT side of the barrel just fwd. of the reciever. The "REP" that you saw is on the right side. you will find either three letters, or two letters like "A ZZ" or "W D". those letters will tell the date of manufactur as to month and year. I have a listing for all 760's and 7600 or any other Remington.

    I have to disagree with "only the buttstock will interchange. A quick ckeck of my parts book revealed the following will interchange and have the same part number.
    Trigger Pin, Trigger Plate Pins both front and rear, Trigger Plate Pin etents both front and rear, Trigger Plate Pin ushings front and rear,
    safety (prior to the new one with a key), safety spring, safety detent ball, Hammer spring, Hammer plunger, Action tube ring,Stock bearing Plate, Hammer Pin, Sear, Sear Spring, Sear Spring Pin, Large Cam Pin and Small cam pin.
