Remington or Ruger?? 2 Questions
[?]I was looking at Remington 592 or Ruger 10-22 in .22 WMR and I was wondering which is the better of the 2.
If I do not go the .22 WMR which is the better of Remington Speedmaster or Ruger 10-22 in similiar length barrels for the .22.
I know there are more "goodies" for the Ruger but all I plan to do is add a scope and plink as I am not a tinkerer.

I have never had any issue with the Ruger product line. I do not agree with there Politics or Philosophy but there products are top notch. [8D]

If that's all you are going to use it for may I recommend the Marlin Model 60. Inexpensive and very accurate. Good used examples can be had for less than $100. Just my two cents. 0 -
it is awful hard to beat the marlin for the price.

go with the 10-22 , should be able to find a used one for a little more than you would pay for a used marlin and have a better gun , one that will hold its value better and one that if you change your mind you can add the goodies too [:D], not saying that marlin is bad because they're not its just you may as well send 20 bucks more to get a better gun , heck you can buy a new 10-22 from walmart for $149 0 -
I believe the question was about the choice between REMINGTON and RUGER, how in the hell did MARLIN get into the equation? I don't think, quality wise, you will go wrong with either gun. Unless you are about 3'-4 1/2" tall you might find the RUGER to be a bit short stocked. I would suggest you handle them both and the one that feels best is the one to buy. A few dollars one way or another is absolutely of no consequence when amortized over years and thousands of rounds.

Ha! Was thinking the same thing.[:D] Apparently it is hard to answer a specific question for some.[;)]
Anyway, I would go with the 10-22. Mine is very accurate and will shoot anything put in it.

I have a ruger 10/22 and it works great. Almost bought a Marlin, I thought it was a little heavier, but they are nice also. I am not a fan of Remington's in .22 or .22 WMR, but they make great 700 models.

the 10/22 gives you the most plastic base for any future changes you might make, though you do not intend to do so now. You can replace (read up-grade) virtually any part of the rifle you choose to. It will also be a decent plinking rifle. I would plan to imporve the trigger at least. 0 -
I bought a Ruger 10/22 WMR and have had a trouble free and pleasant experience with it. Approximately 400 hundred rounds so far. It is accurate enough for crows, armadillos and such. I put an old Leupold 3X9 40mm on it. I have a couple of friends that bought the Remington before I decided on the Ruger. Both had various problems with them. Both had intermitent extraction and jamming problems. Maybe this problem has been corrected. I vote for getting the Ruger. Good luck

had the remington 597 22 mag/black syn stock.......worked just fine but did not like the mickey mouse plastic clip...now they have a potmetal one ????? ruger has a world better clip.....with 22's up the wazzoo i would suggest (as a plinker ) trying a 22lr using aguila super max hyper velocity ammo 30 grain 1750 fps on the doorstep of the 22 mag range & a whole lot cheaper......have fun 0 -
Ruger 10/22 Mag. Then purchase a 17 HMR factory contour match barrel and you have two rifles on the same platform. Then purchase an aftermarket hammer and sear pack which will cut the trigger pull down to 3 lbs or less.
Great fun to shoot!
