We have no idea without knowing about the condition of the rifle. Just like on Antiques Roadshow, condition is most of the value. Original patination, or has it been refinished. Tell us about the condtion of the blue, the wood, any rust, dings, dents etc.
Assuming a standard rifle in .30-30 caliber in 90% condition, about $850-$1000.
Bert beat me to the manufacture date, but yes, sometime during WWII. Production records are lacking for those years, so numbers cannot be tied to a particular year.0 -
Hello blash777...
It shouldn't have a saddle ring based on the serial number. Winchester dropped the saddle ring as a standard production item circa 1925. Your Sporting Carbine was manufactured sometime during WW II. Does it have the standard milled figure-8 front barrel band, or does it have the stamped flat-band?

I bought this 30-30 at a yard sale 10 years ago and I've never shot it. I know nothing about rifles. Everything functions well and smooth. No rust. Nothing major damage stands out. The wood looks great, but does have minor marks. The metal is all one color. It looks gray to me. The barrel band is figure 8, if I'm looking at the right thing, Figure 8 with a screw between the barrels in the center of the figure 8. What do you think? 0 -
OK, with a standard figure-8 barrel band (the lower tube is the magazine), it was made during the early part of WW II. Based on your description, it is not a high condition specimen... especially if the steel looks gray. In fact, it sounds like it is in "normal" used condition for its age, and as such, it is only worth about $400. It most likely will be a real fine shooter should you decide to give it a try.

Thank you so much. For $400 I would never sell a rifle that was made thirty years before I was born. Plus, if I was a cowboy, this would be my rifle. I think John W. must have owned this rifle at one time. Thank you for your info. 0 -
