Browning Belgium made 12ga semi-auto value?

My father gave me a used (about 85% good condition) Browning Belgium made 12ga semi-auto shotgun with the name "light twelve" on the receiver.

I'm not a shotgun kinda guy. So can anyone tell the approx value of this baby?

    It sounds like you have a Browning A5 "light twelve". I have seen these anywhere from $500 and up at my local shops. As a matter in fact I have a Belgin made A5 (not "light twelve") I recently had appraised at my local Gander Mountain. I have a vent rib barrel and one slug barrel for it and they priced it at $925 to $1100 (the range dependant on the sales person I talked to). The gunsmith there said an average of $1000 due to 98% condition.

    If it is a standard Light 12 (no Vent Rib, and a full choke), it is worth about $350.

    I agree with Bert H with it at 85% and on the low end of the "extras" list then it would value around $350-360. Or atleast that seems to be the trend on GBs auction page. I was listing the prices locally here in NE Ohio. You cant touch an A5 in 85% (or better)condition of any grade for under $500.

    I agree with aerogenius. I know what the books say, but here in NE Arkansas, you won't buy one at 85% plus condition for less than $500 unless you find a little old lady selling her late husband's guns. You go to a 20 gauge and it will be 40% more. Furthermore, the Japanese A5's are right there with the Belgiums. I believe in the last two years alone, the prices around here are up 60-75%. It's very difficult to find a Belgium in 90% plus condition because nobody is turning loose of them. I wish I knew ten years ago what I know about them now!!

    Same is true in my area,S.E. Mo.. 85% Browing for $500.00 is dirt cheap, espically light twelve, 20gauge is out of sight.

    thanks for responding everybody. It has the vent rib and gold-colored trigger. My father acted like it was worth several million dollars[:)] but he feels that way about anything he owns that someone else might want.[:D]

    Hello TR...

    The Vent Rib adds about a 25% premium to the value. Here (in the western part of the U.S.), Browning A-5s are relatively inexpensive (unless in 98%+ condition). I do realize that gun values are affected by regional influences, but the internet is slowly but surely leveling the playing field. You did not yet say what the choke or barrel length is (which will effect the desirability/value), but at this point, it is only worth about $450 unless it has a 26-inch barrel (versus 28 or 30-inch), and it has something other than a Full choke. The real determining factor in the value is the graded condition... and at 85%, it is a shooter versus a collector.

    This should prove just how much of a difference there can be in regional prices. I have probably more respect for Bert H's opinions on Winchester and Browning longarms than any other GB member I read. I also respect BobbyWins opinions a lot. Around here a vent rib will add 20-25% and the round knob will add 15-20%. Don't take this as a sarcastic remark but maybe I will have to take a trip out to the west coast this summer, drive around for a week and see how many 90-95% plus A5's I could come up with at those west coast prices. My wife has a brother in CA and has been wanting to go see him, so maybe ........ Oh man, would that be a noisy trip back!!!

    thanks guys. It has got the longest barrell I have ever seen on a gun. If I was shooting quail I would assume it would be easier to knock them out of the air with the long barrell rather than shoot them.

    Think my dad said it had a full chock. Also, I removed the magazine plug and loaded in 4 rounds and cycled the action by hand. Twice (I only tried it twice) the 4th round hung up on the elevator and didn't quite make it out of the magazine.

    Do you suppose years of having that plug has set the spring so that no more than 3 rounds can be loaded and cycled?

    [:D][:D] Try one of the Big Reno gun shows (three per year). Really good deals can be found in Oregon & Washington at the smaller gun shows. The PRK (California) tends to be a bit inflated... like everything else down there in loony-land[:o)].

    If it were mine to sell, I would start it at $450, and then let the current market dictate what the final selling price is... I presume that the buyer will probably be from the mid-west versus the west coast[:0].

    Actually you would want a shoter barell, 26in. I/C choke for the birds.
