air gun silencer???

is there such thing as an airgun silencer??? if so, how much are they and are they legal in new york state?

    Searched google and they do exist. Seems they are viewed as any other suppressor in the eyes of the law and would require all the same NFA stuff as one would for a regular firearm. So no they would not be legal in NY state.

    Airgunsilencers are an actual product, yes.

    But look into silencers made by the same manufacturer as your airgun.
    The threading and silencers are sometimes made in plastic, rarely in aluminum and practically never in steel. (for airguns anyway).

    You might have an airgun with a standard thread like ?"*32 or something like that - that probably gives you the possibility of choosing between more kinds of silencers.


    Another thing is - silencers for airguns, will never hold up to the pressures you'd get from real guns. Not safely anyways.

    That's why silencers for airguns are not ATF-regulated or taxed.
    Silencers for gunpowder-powered weapons are ATF-regulated and taxed.

    Saw a "suppressor" for a Crosman 1077 made out of 2" PVC that was a slip-fit on the barrel; worked pretty well, too. Seems it was made from the tops of prescription pill bottles with holes drilled (?)in them for baffles, and they slid into the PVC. It was aligned with a cleaning rod down the barrel, then shoved into place.
    Not sure if it was a regulated item or not, the owner didn't seem to know anything about any laws concerning air guns/suppressors; but I would imagine anything like that would violate at least a hundred laws in NY.
