Suppose they could have fit the bushing wrong so the barrel is lower than it should be or it could have been a bad bushing, it can't be the link and no you cant lower it to fix that. The breach end of the barrel needs to move up a certain amount for the gun to function correctly The link pushes the barrel up to engage the locking lugs.

Its just a theory of course in most cases its how your holding the gun and I'm still in school so don't quote me.

Please don't take this the wrong way but has anyone else tried this pistol ammo combo? The 1911 is a gun that is very easy to anticipate the gun going off . this will cause the shooter to dip the front down just as he pulls the trigger. go to the range with a friend take a Magazine and with a pair of pliers bend the tip of the follower down so it will not work the slide stop pin after the last round is shot. now get your friend to load a differant number of rounds in the magazine each time . Then you shoot the pistol slowly aiming each shot when you run out of rounds and you pull the trigger watch the sights very closely if they dip you have found the problem "YOU" not the gun the secert is have someone else load the magazine with out you knowing how many rounds are in it.be sure it is a good friend.

Thanks for the "soft glove" considerations. [;)]

It's an LDA, and I've done plenty of dry firing to trace my loss-of-target.
I have practiced with different powder loads in another gun to fight the flinch.
I have been able to score in the 9- and x- ring, but the front sight is .. outta sight.
Literally, the rear is not even in the ballpark of the front.

Unless ... my pull is that bad.

Yes, it has been shot by two others.
"Sweet" and "It takes getting used to" were the comments I got.
I tried to get the range owner to shoot it, but he was tied up.

The last time this happened, with e PPK/S, the instructor quickly confirmed that it was sighted to the left. John Canaday; teaches out near Fresno. A better shooter you will be hard pressed to find.

So, the gun is on it's way. It cost me $18.60, in shipping and chances are pretty strong it is the gun. I shoot other guns with shorter barrels better. And, of course, my Colt practically finds the -X- on it's own, it is tuned up so well (compliments of the Custom Shop guys, when I sent it in to be brought "in to spec.".

Hello To be 8 inches low would take a front sight that would be very high in relation to the rear sight .the reason the front sight on a mil pistol is soo short is the design of lockup of a 1911 has the back of the barrel raised up into the locking lugs of slide . if you take a straigt edge across the top of rear and front sight it will point slightly down. Light fast bullets will also shoot lower then 230 grain BALL because of BARREL TIME. The reason for my first post is I have been shooting BULLS-EYE for 40 years "BEEN TO CAMP PERRY FOR #32years straight" however with a new 1911 type with heavy trigger and short barrel some of the latest compact models I get a case of FLINCH. this old magazine trick works for me . I do take a good friend that can keep his mouth shut. I think it is a good training aid. Hope I didn't step on any toes "PRAISE THE HARDBALL GUN"

Toes intact, and I'm in bare feet.

In the absence of true professionals (rural CA to gun-shy PA suburb) I took the easy way out at the suggestion of a CSR from the Para Canada office.

Like i said, I'm out under $20, and if there is something wrong, they will spot it.

It could very well be the flinch. It is not a single action, the LDA could product dip, and I have prevoiusly mentioned on more than one occasion that, for me, the finest combination is .40S&W out of a commander barrel / officer's grip minimum.

Thanks for you patient responces. I never visualized the barrel "cant", if that is right.
Of course the rear locks up, but I never pickured to what extent.

    J.

i agree with perry on every aspect. sounds like someone changed the front site and forgot to file it down to battle sight zero or no one has walked in the sights yet. now tell us, did this just start happening or is this the first time you shot it? what lb spring is it sent up with? when you test fire, is it bagged or in your hand with your hand and gun resting on the bag?

Technology is great. If I knew then what tech. shows me now...

Sometime ago, when lazer-bore "pointers" came out, I explored their potential. Including their use to verify iron sights accuracy.

Now I use them to verify everything, from parallax in a rifle scope and adjusting my red dot sights, to ironsights truing. It will also tell me exactly how much higher or lower to correct my "Kentucky windage and elevation" when changing ammo brands with fixed iron sights.

Unless you have adjustable sights, you probably may have to do some "compensating" depending on the ammo brand's differing point of impact.

I assume this was a "brand new" factory gun, which most likely was "checked" at the factory to fall within certain specs. You are right to assume that installing a shorter link will not raise the point of impact much, especially on five inch barreels, although on short barrels it improves some but your barrel lugs may suffer some in the long run. A taller rear sight may help, but that is something else.

Are/were you displaying a vertical flyers patern, with little or no variation in windage? Sometimes this is the result of not enough recoil spring tension when the gun is in battery, ready to fire. Sometimes installing a new "longer" recoil spring can cure this. If there is a little bit of play back and forth in the slide/frame when in battery, this could point to that. But this is usually a problem more with "shorter" guns than standard length guns.

Since you already shipped the gun back, the point is moot. But keep an eye for this to happen again should the factory "not" replace the sights.

When initially sighting-in a handgun, I allways bench rest it, to eliminate somewhat the human error while adjusting the sights, or finding where the "fixed sights" are hiting. I assume you did that too?

I never got good using the factory sights.
But point-shooting, i got really good at it.
I am guessing that is is an 18# spring.

I've had it a year or so, and have 1400+ rounds through it.

    JSERGOVIC-

Seems you do have a shorter LDA. I have a 14-40 LDA for about two years now. I like it very much. First thing you can do is change the sights anyway, both front and rear. Para uses a low cut Novak style for the rear. MMC makes a nice "adjustable" rear sight that will fit in that cut. For the front, find a .130" - .145" high dovetail sight. (Para uses a narrow dovetail around .200")

Recoil springs don't last forever, especially in shorter pistols. After 1400 rounds you have put through, you are due a spring change. Use the stronger spring that will allow ejection without "stove-piping" with your loads. If your gun did not come with a recoil spring "guide rod", install one. They do help extend the life of recoil springs and help tighten your assembly some. You may have to drill a hole in your "indexed" reverse spring plug to allow the use of the guide rod. Buy a standard size guide rod, install it, mark the protuding front end, hacksaw-cut it flush, file it, and you are done.

Oh, yes, a recoil plastic shock "buffer" installed in your guide rod also helps your gun from getting beat up from the hot loads.
