    Hello drdoolittle_1...

    If they were manufactured prior to 1968, there was no federal requirement to serialize them. The GCA of 1968 is what changed the requirement for all firearms to be serialized. It was real common for many of the major firearms manufacturers to omit serial numbers on their "less" expensively made rimfire rifles and shotguns (one less step in the production process).

    Where it asks for serial number enter NONE.

    I have a model 30 JC Higgins that dates to 1960. They were built by High Standard and are really nice little rifles (Yep, I am looking for another). Mine also has no serial number.
