Don't care what it costs, where can I find one?

Looking for a sling for Winchester 52 Sporter as illustrated in this vintage owners manual. It appears to be leather, 1" wide. Would Winchester have offered these as part of the package? or was it an aftermarket accessory?

Closest thing I have found is made by Boyt....any insight is greatly appreciated.

    depending on the year of manufacture...
    some of the B, & C models could be ordered with a AL FREELAND wide sling with a super wide arm cuff. there was even a version offered with tension springs built in (dont ask...)...

    i will check my file and se if i can find any referances to issue leather on sporters.

    Hello Rembrandt...

    Yes, the Model 52 Sporting Rifle was factory equipped with a 1-inch wide leather sling strap. The Model 52 Target Rifle and Bull Gun were not furnished with a sling strap unless special ordered.

    In addition to the Model 52, the Models 57, 60A, 69A, and 75 were equipped, or could be ordered with the leather sling strap.

    Did the factory equipped slings have any markings (ie: "Winchester" or a part number?) that would be historically correct?

    On the few that I have seen, I can't remember seeing any distinguishing markings, but to be perfectly honest, I really did not look at them that closely. I guess that I will need to look more closely next time I see one.

    In 92 or 93 both Winchester and Browning sold a recreation of the Model 52. They only produced it for a year or two. I didn't know much about guns, then, but I was looking for a high grade .22. I bought the Browning.(The dealer had both; they were identical. I just somehow chose the Browning) I love this gun. Mine does not have iron sights so I ordered the factory scope rings. This is perhaps the most accurate gun I own. At about 40 yards, I use fired .22 shell as targets!

    I see one of these now and again at the gun shows. I saw one not long ago(the Winchester) new, still in the box for about $800.00.

    I just check my 52B sporter that has what I am sure is the original sling. It has no markings that distinguish it from any others.

    I have a Win. 69 Target Model which I got new in 1961. It came with a sling that's still on it. There are no markings on the sling. I wish Winchester had embossed it. It would add $20 value.

    Rembrandt, What is pictured on the 52 Sporter and was commonly used was a civilian copy of the model 1907 military rifle sling. It was used as a carrying strap and for support while shooting. I do not know who may have made the slings furnished by Winchester. The Boyt sling would be correct. These slings came in different widths. If you have a set of sling swivels, and I hope you do as they are expensive, make sure you get a sling of the proper width to fit the swivels. Be prepared to get totally confused when you try to attach the 1907 sling to the rifle. I can send you instructions as to how to properly attach the sling when you get one. Exact reproductions of these slings are made by Les Tam of Honolulu, by Turner Saddle Co, Boyt and probably others. Cost will be in the $40-50 range. The correct keepers (the little leather loops that go around the sling) should be sewn, not bradded. I urge you to get a nice sling for that nice rifle. An "el cheapo" reproduction would look terrible on it. The Boyt sling is a copy of the 1907. They make good quallity leather products. Once again, make sure the sling width matches your swivels.
