I need to know the value of a very fine 1873 winchester cal.22 complete working gun with history from a family farm in Iowa, Also a Scott & Co 10guage shotgun in beatiful condition nicel engraved good detail

    You'll need to post pictures of both guns for anyone to approximate a value. Depending upon condition and originality, the 73, at least, could be worth $500-$5000 or more. But, again, detailed pics are necessary. I don't know if the "Scott and Co." shotgun is a forerunner of the English maker Webley and Scott or not. For that matter, we don't even know if it's a double. Could be valuable, could be a hardware store brand. Only way to know is to see above. -Asa

    I will need to know quite a bit more about the Winchester Model 1873 before passing any kind of judgement on it, and several pictures would really help. You can start by providing the answers to the following;

    1. Serial number?
    2. Barrel length?
    3. Barrel shape (octagon or round)?
    4. Specific caliber stamp (22 Short or 22 Long)?

    Hello Bert, Here are answers to some of the questions

    1.serial #361252B
    2. barrel length 24"
    3. Octagon barrell
    4. stamped 22cal long on brass plate on bottom of chamber, also on barrell 22long

    OK, the serial number indicates that it left the factory circa 1890 (you can get the exact date from the Cody Firearms Museum - http://www.bbhc.org/firearms/records.cfm).

    The barrel length and shape are both standard configuration. The primary determining factor in the value will be what the overall caondition is. If you are unable to post pictures here, you can send them to me at Win1885@msn.com
