AK dilema
I currently own a norinco MAK-90 sporter with a black choate thumbhole stock. It has no threaded barrel, muzzle break or anything special. I got it cheap in thinking that I could easily change the stock and other parts to make it legal. I then got to thinking about the cost of all the parts and whether or not it was better to sell it and buy something like a WASR-10 than I could freely customize.
However, from what i've been able to dig up, the WASR-10 is inferior as far as quality to the MAK-90. If not a WASR-10, what should I be on the look out for? I would probably go for a VEPR if you could interchange parts with a regular ak.
Anybody comes through that door, you put two in the chest and one in the head!

Well I would say spend a little money and make a project out of your MAK-90. It will be fun and something to do in your spare time. If you do not have spare time then look at the SAR1 in 7.62X39 or the SAR3 in 5.56 for a new purchase to do what you have in mind. My 2 cents [8D]

VEPR's are sporterized RPK's. Their parts, for the most part, are not interchangeable with AK's. Very high quality shooters. 0 -
i dont know about the cost of customozing your MAK-90 but i do know that if you decide to go with a new WASR-10, you will not be dissapointed. ive owned two and love them. 0 -
Keep the Mak90 you are right about it being superior to the wasr 10.
I've done my Mak90 with some inexspensive add ons and it was a blast. The front handgaurds cost $20 something, the gas piston cost $14 or so, the pistol grip cost $15 or so and the Romanian folder cost $40 awhile back. I also used the U.S. made floor plates and followers to complete my 922r requirement. I wouldn't mess with the Fire Control Group as the Mak90's has a sweet FCG. The scope mount plate was alittle advanced for me but I did it and so can you.[8D]
Good luck out there.0
