Winchester Model 1907 S.L.

I've aquired a Winchester Model 1907 in .351 that I believe to be one of the police model issued between 1934 and 1937. I have some questions wether it is real or has been modified. Can't find much information on the internet, so I thought I would try you guys. There is no front site on the barrel, it is incorporated into a clamp on bracket that also has a bayonet lug that takes a Krag bayonet. Is this the way they came from Winchester or is this modified? Also there is a stamp on the receiver "Interarms, Alexandria Va.". I thought Interarms was an importer? Does this mean this gun was imported from a foreign country? I've heard that the French used some of these in WWII. Any help would be appreciated.

    Hello,

    Unfortunately, your Model 1907 is no longer original. As manufactured by Winchester, they all had dovetail mounted front sights. I suspect that the barrel has been shortened a might... what is the barrel length?

    Interarms did import firearms, and yes, there were a good number of Model 1907s sold to our allies during WW II (which means that your rifle is a bit newer than you believe it to be). The French goverment did purchase some of them. They were primarily used to arm airplane pilots.

    John Henwood wrote a book titled "THE FORGOTTEN WINCHESTERS A History of the Model 1905, 1907 and 1910 Self-Loading Rifles" that you might be interested in.

    I checked a web site that figures date of manufacture by serial number. Found out that my Winchester was made in 1950, so obviously it cannot be a police model, bummer. I'll check the barrel length this weekend. If anyone can help me figure out if it was sold to a foreign country, I'd appreciate it.
