Preparing revolver for long-term storage

One of my buddies is preparing to leave the country for 2-3 years, and has a Ruger stainless steel revolver that needs to be prepared for long-term storage in a climatized facility. I was planning on a good, thorough cleaning, oiling it with Birchwood Casey Sheath, putting it in a Bore Store, inside a lockbox with dessicant. Will this be good enough? Any other suggestions? Any better choices than Birchwood Casey Sheath for this?

    This is not a recomendation, just on observation. My older neighbor recently decided to move after his wife's passing. He and his family decided to have a huge garage sale. One of the things he had in his shed was a metal bucket filled with what appeared to be used motor oil. In the oil were several older revolvers of little value that had resided in the oil since the 1950's. After cleaning them up, the old geezer said they looked just like they did the day he put them in the bucket. I guess the oil kept oxidation to a minimum but at the expense of probably ruining the stocks.

    Worry is the interest humans pay on the debt of miscalculation.

    I use Eezox on mine and they have been in storage for over 20 years and still in great shape. It wont bother the wood, bluing etc. and has worked great for me. [:)][:)]

    Just my little bit of input.

    My Stainless Super Blackhawk rarely see's daylight.I mean it has come out of it's cheap hardcase maybe 4 times in the past 6-7 years.All I ever do is wipe it down w/Rem Oil and put it away.It's still as new lookin' as when I got it in 1979.

    Hi Darkstar, nice to see you around here again! I agree you have it pretty well covered, but if possible, it would be nice if someone could maybe check on it every 6 months or so to see that all is well and maybe give it a little oil touch up.

    Good Lord, man! The revolver is stainless steel!

    DarkStar11 has it more than covered. Actually, it would be fine left in a fairly dry environment. Stainless guns will corrode, but you have to really neglect them for that to happen.
