demilled mp-40

i watched an auction for a demilled mp-40 and was wondering
about the legal ( A.T.F.) take on it.
the buyer was apparently phoney and in his feedback simply wished the seller a nice life in prison.
does anybody know what the a.t.f.'s specs are in reguard to demilled
receivers? this one was a complete gun with two very neat sawed cuts.
an easy reweld job if you had a classIII ( OR NOT).

    If the seller is in europe, the receiver isn't the part that's cut up/regestered (the barrel is considered to be the gun there). Here in the states, the ATF specifies how the receiver is to be cut for de-milling purposes, and the receiver is considered to be the gun.

    In Denmark and Germany, the part with the serial-number is the important part. This part is usually the receiver.
    Anything else are just parts.


    Then Denmark isn't a part of Europe, as both the barrel, receiver and bolt has to be cut at least 2mm wide and rendered useless in such a way that it can't structurally hold up to the pressure of firing a round. Barrel welded to the receiver, so barrel-exchange is not possible.
    The bolt is disassembled, firingpin extracted and hole is TIG-welded, bolt cut in it's entire length.
    Some times even a few of the locking lugs are removed.

    Whole length of barrel including the chamber and the bolt is cut up.
    Receiver is structurally weakened - some parts are taken out.

    Altering or attempts at welding anything together again is illegal.

    All this can be done so it is not too visible.


    I would suspect in the US, it would be a criminal offence to re-activate a demilled weapon.
