silicone gun socks

Does anyone reccomend these to store guns? I have used them just to keep the dust off. I figured that if I keep them in an airy spot the fabric cant trap too much humidity.... am I right?

Any suggestions to keep 'em clean?

  In general, I think they are pretty good; but would add a caution that it depends on the storage condtitions. I live in the damp, rainy Pacific Northwest, and have my rack guns that I use less frequently covered with silicone impregnated socks to keep the dust and moisture away. Nevertheless, I do occassionally inspect and wipe down these guns with a silicone cloth or a light coat of oil on a soft cloth. I can envision a situation where the bags would be great dust collectors. For longterm storage I use thick plastic bags I obtained from Brownells several years ago. I oil the rifles, and put them into the bag with a strip of rust preventative paper, then seal up the bag and put it in an inexpensive platic hardcase. More recently, Brownells seems to have quit carrying the plastic bags and now offers a package of 12 silver-colored bags for about $60 that are supposed to preserve whatever you place in them for decades.

  Like Der Gebirgsjager I use them to store my long guns. I use the brand called Bore Stores (cheaper at Cabela's than from the manufacturer). Unlike the mountain hunter, I live in the desert. None the less everything gets a rubdown with a soft rag and a dab of oil. They are a rather open weave to allow air circulation, but they are fleece inside to cushion the contents. I think they are great.
