Sears 53a
I picked up a sears mod 53a 30-06 in a recent trade. I know that it is made by winchester and is a model 70. The gun would look to have never been fired. My question is what can i expect from this rifle i know that its not worth much but are they decent shooters? Id like to know before i buy a scope for it. The trigger pull is very good. I tried to find a DOM and had no luck would any of you know? the sn# U1665xx thanks for any help.

I can't help you on the DOM,but if it's a Mod 70,it should be an excellent shooter.

IT'S WHAT PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT THEMSELVES THAT MAKES THEM AFRAID.0 -
It should be as good as any model 70 made in it's day (We have been told on a post a couple of years ago, that the made-for-Sears Winchesters were in the same series as the ones sold under the Winchester name, so a check of the Winchester serial numbers should give you a dom for this rifle). The department store guns were no frills, or economy models for the most part, but that usually means plain wood, in other words the differences are mostly cosmetic. 0 -
I thought that the sn# would not cross to the winchster or so i had been told but ill give it a try thanks 0 -
Linemech, a couple of years ago this very question came up on the board. One of the posters had heard that they were the same series and checked with Winchester. He was told the serials are in the same series as the Winchester labeled rifles, not in a separate series. A couple of guys checked theirs and came up with the right years, so I think it will work for you. Sounds to me like you made a good trade! 0
