Yes Frank the 1894 was chambered in 38-55, I'm sure Bert or some of the other guys will tell you when the last one left the factory.

    Hello FrancF...

When Winchester introduced the Model 1894 in October of 1894, it was originally only available in 32-40 or 38-55. Both of those cartridges were in production until 1936. Winchester reintroduced the 38-55 chambering in 1979 (the Legendary Frontiersman Commemorative) and since that time, it has been available in several other commemoratives. In more recent years, Winchester has offered it in their regular Model 94 production line.

The 38-55 is a really fine cartridge, and is capable of truly superb accuracy. Winchester also chambered the Model 1885 (high-wall) Single Shot in 38-55, and it was one of the more popular chamberings. Many of the early target shooters used it in their 1885s (though the 32-40 was a fair bit more popular).

    Thanks Bert!
Its a very long story, But it did belong to my real dad. So the dates you gave are perfect and make sence. Not sure, but I am guessing this one will fall in about the 1920-30's era. Unless he got it from my grand dad, then that would put it in 1894 range.

Thanks all for the big help! With out having seen it yet, Now I can track it down if grandpa bought it and gave it to my dad etc.
