Winchester Model 52-D value?
There is a really nice Winchester single shot target rifle in a local shop for sale for $800. How is this price? It has a heavy bull barrel, forend rail, scope blocks and Redfield International target sights. Condition is very good-excellent. Would it be reasonable to ask for a 3 day trial to see how it shoots or should I just pay the money and take a chance? Thanks for any comments or suggestions.

It could be a very good price if the rifle is still 100% original. The 52-D was introduced in 1961, and was essentially the last of the various Model 52 variants.

Price is a little high. For it to be worth $800, it would have to be a 98% (almost perfect) rifle.
From the Blue Book:
98% - $800
95% - $675
90% - $5500 -
Thanks for your replies. It has been for sale for over 3 months now, I'll try to see if I can get it reduced or maybe a trade would work best. The rifle looks all original to me with no modifications. I'd like to buy it, but I'm happy with my Remington 541-S if it doesn't work out. 0 -
I think a 2 week return would be reasonable, considering it is a local shop. Guns like this tended to be owned by serious target shooters who kept them looking good externally, but who fired hundreds of thousands of rounds; it may be worn mechanically to the point that it is not accurate.

lots of the 52ds were CMP guns. the last variation of the 52 series was the "52E", first time I caught Bert H with a mistake. lol 0 -
just a note: the cmp will have some more of these later this year for <$500 (no sights) they have some barrels actions now for <$300. these are returned rotc guns and show some handling wear but are good shooters. 0
