Shipping ammo to New York?

I just sold some FN SS192 here on GB:

In checking the contact information of the buyer, I find that he is in New York. I state in my auction that I cannot ship ammunition to an individual in certain locations -- NY state being one of them. I arrived at my list by looking at the shipping restrictions in a number of catalogs of reputable companies that sell ammo -- if they don't ship to certain locations, I figure I don't want to ship there either.

I've offered to ship to an alternative address or to an FFL if the buyer wants, but don't want to ship to NY without solid proof that it is legal for me to do so. Does anyone have a link that can clarify the legal questions about shipping ammunition to a private individual in NY?

    Upstate NY is NOT New York City. I receive ammo all the time along with many other items and it is not restricted Upstate. NY City is a whole different world. I wish we could cecede and become the 51st state

    You will need to know the buyer's city & county. Then, go to State Laws and Published Ordinances - Firearms (ATF P5300.5) & look it up; this publication can be downloaded from the ATF website.

    I see now why companies won't ship to NY -- it's damm complicated. I'll try to work with the buyer and complete the transaction if I can be sure I can ship legally. (Hopefully he is on good terms with a FFL and I can just ship there!)

    Joe, FWIW, I put the onus on the buyer with the following (C&P boilerplate from my listings of collector ammo):

    Successful bidder *must*: (1) provide proof of age by photocopy of DL or other ID and (2) include *signed* statement as follows: "Under penalty of perjury, there are no laws or regulations in my jurisdiction of residence which prohibit me from buying or receiving the ammunition or components transferred in this transaction."

    Of course, this doesn't relieve me of common sense precautions such as not shipping most military loadings to the Occupied Territories, or at least the major population centers of the O.T. And granted where I deal - 99.5% of the time - with single rounds, there are somewhat different circumstances, but I find most ammo dealers use some variation on this theme.
