remington 660 answers...

rrfhunter and reddog..let me add validity to your 660 laminated stock question. First of all there, there will always be doubting thomases like xp-100, who should not respond on the experts forum without either doing some research unless they are truly an expert. he urked me , so i chose to respond again since i have owned three of these rifles. His first point that he could bolt his laminated 600 stock onto a standard caliber rifle and claim it to be an ultra rare 660 was obviously just popping off without thinking. that would obviously be a parts gun as the 660 stocks have forendcaps and the diamond inlay in the grip cap and the 600 stock does not, not to mention the recoil pad.His next mistake was saying he could remove the recoil pad and put on a buttplate...wrong again ! this would change the factory overall length of the stock from aprox 13.25 to around 12". And lastly, as he has obviously not seen one , he would not know that even though they made these factory laminated stocks in the standard calibers with the correct overall length of pull using a buttplate, they did hold true to the orig. concept of NOT putting sling swivel studs in these guns like they did on the magnums(two of the three i owned were still orig. without the addition of studs)....i am sure , since he is an expert, he will counter with the fact that someone could laminate some beach and walnut panels together, make some blanks, form and fit them, and then manage to duplicate the factory pressed checkering pattern long since discontinued and build these counterfit guns and sell them at inflated prices claimimg them to be rare collectables... i guess if he does, i couldnt argue that as a poss.
