Reloading question-45lc

I am working up a load for my 45lc. I am almost settled on the bullet and powder type. But I have always wonder what would be the differnce if there would be in Lg mag primer verses just the Lg primer. I now load 44mag,357mag,9mm,45acp,444,308,30-06,303british and 7.62x39. I am not new to reloading but I always like to get as much info as possible to keep thing on the safe. I am going to try to hunt with the load I am working and I would like to carry for protection. The reason is the gun is super accurate and really sweet shooter. I case any are wondering what tpye of weapon, S&W Model 25-13 4in and have a up grade Jerry Miculek spring kit. Thanks for any and all info.

    your reloading manual should tell you which primer to use , , using a mag primer in place of where a standard is called for will raise the pressure of the load and a lot of times made for a less accurate load, about the only time I use maganum primers is if the load calls for it or if I workd up the load useing both and for what ever reason the maganum primer gives better results , or if its a hunting load that will be used during cold temps..

    now of course this is just my 2 cents worth , you should take it will a grain of salt and by all means check your books before you do anything [:D]

    I'll stick with the Lg primers, I think I will start out with a 200gr bullet, accurte#5 powder shows best velocity, I going to pull out the chronagraph and see what charts best. thanks

    .45 LC is such a low pressure cartridge with such small powder charges, there should be no need for magnum primers. Only time I use mag. primers in standard cartridges is with slower burning powders when the round is to be fired from a shorter barrel (I use CCI 350 magnums in my 10mm loads for the 3.5" barreled Witness compact)

    It's easy to spot liberals-they are the ones who have no assets to protect and need every handout they can get. They have forbeyed themselves ascendence to a productive lifestyle.

    In my Ruger I have used Nosler #43013 45/250 JHP over 20gr H110 with CCI mag primers in new or once fired Federal cases. I'm not sure I would try it in your S&W.

    My favorite load for the 45 Colt is a piece of Starline brass, Federal 155 primer, a healthy dose of H110 and a 370 grain dcggc Cast Performence bullet. Only use in a Ruger Blackhawk or a revolver chambered in 454 Casull.

    I would follow the loading data in the powder manual or the reloading manual and not deviate. These companies make recommendations on components because they know their business. Using a magnum primer can increase pressures to dangerous levels. This would be especially true if you were reloading hotter 45 Colt rounds for a modern gun like a Ruger or Freedom Arms revolver or using a fast burning powder like Bullseye.

    These above pistols will handle a significantly hotter load than the traditional Colt SAA load. Loading data is available from many sources now for these modern 45 Colt loads and they improve the performance of the 45 Colt beyond that of the 44 Magnum. In fact, if using a custom 5-shot revolver like a Bowen or Linebaugh, the 45 Colt loads can be increased to unbelievable power levels. Hodgdon has a special category of reloading data you can find in their powder manual for loading 45 Colt rounds for Ruger, Freedom Arms and Thompson Contender pistols.

    The exception of when to use magnum primers is when a slow burning powder, particularly Winchester 296 ball powder and Hodgdon 110, is used. These powders specifically warn to use magnum primers and to not reduce powder charges by more than 10% because of density issues with the powder.

    Hi 5X5, I also have a S&W mdl 25 and it is NOT as strong as a Ruger so don't use any loads specified as being for stronger revolvers. Most loading manuals will differentiate between these loads. Emery

    If you "HAVE" to use Mag Primers, ( run out of standard primers, etc.) for loading a load that doesn't SPECIFICALLY require Mag. Primers. Drop your powder charge by 2 grains. Check your brass for pressure signs. If everything looks OK, try increasing the load in 1/2 grain increments.
