whats the smallest bullet you can reload for the 300 win mag?

    You can load any .308 diameter bullet for the 300 Win Mag, as far as I know 110 grains is the smallest I'm aware of unless you go to a Sabot.

    The groove diameter is .308", as noted, any bullet of that diaeter can be used. There is a practical minimum and a theoretical minimum. The practical minimum is the noted 110 grain, bullet designed for rifles of 30-06 and the like; the theoretical is bullets that happen to be .308" diameter, but were disigned for pistols. These bullets go down to something like 65 grains. If these are loaded to 300 mag velocities, they generally won't make it to the target before breaking up.

    I've loaded down some 125 Speer HPTNT's that make it to the target at 100yds, but I've loaded some 85gr short jackets that just turned to smoke about 10' in front of the barrel.
    The 300 doesn't take kindly to light bullets at high velocities, but if you load them waaay down; they might not shoot at all.

    I wonder what would happen if you (or any manufacturer) went with the Barnes idea of solid hardened copper alloy in light bullets?
    -just a thought....

    well, what if you got a larger twist ratio in the rifling, like a
    1-15'' ??
