M 1 manufacturer?
Hi all,
I have an M1 that I'm going to list on the host site but I can't figure out who the manufacturer is. I followed the instructions that NMyers gave to cbxjeff on how to take it apart from the stock but still no manufacturer. How can I identify who it was?
Thanks in advance!

Jeff has an M1 carbine; we need to know if that is what you have, or if you have an M1 rifle (also called a Garand). In either case, the manufacturer will ALWAYS be somewhere on the receiver. Some M1 carbines have an extended sight that hangs over the manufacturers name, but it can usually be seen with a flashlight.

THANK YOU! Turns out it's just a Universal but maybe someone will still want it. It is a 30cal carbine. Looks like someone carried it a bit, the varnish on the stock has rub wear on the left side. Thanks again! Any detail you can think of that I should include when I list it?

When digging around for the clip for this carbine I found a camo clip holder that holds four clips, three other clips, a cantine, and two ?bayonets? that are marked USM8A1. Do the bayonets belong to the M1? I guess I'll list all this stuff together if the baynets belong to the carbine. The clips in the holder are 30 round, the others are smaller, how many rounds do they hold?
Thanks again for all the help.

If it's a Universal, buyers will want to know the serial # & whether it has a single recoil spring or 2.
Yes, the M8A1 bayonet was issued for the M1 carbine. Buyers will want to know all markings.
You want to describe the mags in detail, especially the markings on the spine. Especially desireable are the 30 rd SEY "hardback" mags. The smaller mags probably hold 15 rds.

Good Grief,
I had no idea this was going to be quite that complicated! The clip I stuck in the carbine says A1, one of the others says either S-O or 5-0, one looks like it says IS, and another that says A1. The thirty round clips either don't have a marking or I need a magnifying glass. Looks like their might be something along the front rib but I can't read it, the bayonets are reproductions I'm sure, they don't look like they've been out of the sheath. One says US M7 Imperial and the sheath says US M8 A1 and BM co. The other says US M4 Conneta and the sheath says US M8 A1 WD. There's a bunch of writing under the flap of the holder for the 30 round mags,
Pocket, Magazine,
Carbine, 30 Round

Thanks again for any help. Doesn't look like I'm going to get this critter listed today.......maybe later tonight! Gotta pack and ship the 22 I sold on the host site!

Neal thanks for all your help. I went ahead and listed it on gunbroker this morning. I guess I'll be prepared to answer a ton of questions about the clips and the bayonets. You mentioned that I should be able to inform people if it had one recoil spring or two. How do I determine that?
Thanks again for your time.

You've got to remove the action from the stock; it will be apparent once you do.

Thanks again,
It must be a single.
