Weatherby Barrel Life
Does anyone have any idea of how many rounds can be fired before a 300 Weatherby barrel will need replacing?
I've fired about 200 rounds so far with a max 3 round string before allowing the barrel to cool. I purchased a Mk V new from the Weatherby store in Southgate in the mid 1980's if that make any difference.
Thank you

There are WAY too many variables to even begin to come close to accurately answering your question, but I do feel confident in saying that you are still a long way from wearing out the barrel on your particular Weatherby rifle.

I had to finally replace the barrel on my 257 mark V, but 35 years, and a couple thousands of rounds went through her, now they will start dancing as they get hot and that dont take long especialy thru the 257

Keep it on the cool side and you have probably 2000 + rounds or more to go before the throat goes bad enough to loose pin point accuracy.
Warm it up a lot and you'll drop that to 1000 rounds.
But remember that barrels are all different, and so will the number of rounds shot before accuracy suffers in any given rifle.
Just my opinion is all..............

If you reload, and drop the load by about 10%, you would probably double the life of the rifle, and improve accuracy as well. I would probably only do that if you did a lot of target shooting, as a hunting rifle 2000 rounds will last you a lifetime. 0 -
Thanks, I was figuring 1000 rounds would be the lower limit. I had my barrel magnaported and would like to keep from having that expense in addition to the new barrel from occuring anytime in the near future.
Potlicker, I found the first three shots on my rifle can be covered by a dime. The fourth is usually about 3-4" off.0 -
