Japanese Nambu Pistol

Need some info, I recently aquired from my grandfathers estate a pistol that i'm told is a japanese Nambu Model 14

It has 121 stamped on the cocking mechanism, as well as a serial number which ends in 121. (barely discernable) the gun overall is in fair condition, handgrips are nice, and the clip has a 862 number on it.

the one side of the pistol has "8.7" stamped into it, with some other markings which must be japanese on both sides.

I have absolutely no use for this item, just kinda inherited it because i own some guns. (for presonal safety) and they felt that i should have it

Can anyone decipher the above info and give me meaningful history and /or value of this piece...

    Point well taken.

    I was not interested in it at all since i have no use for it (not that im gonna throw it in a corner and let it rust) my whole intent is to determine value and make sure i can sell it to someone whom would want it for its historical value.

    The reason i got "stuck" with it is since the rest of the family has younger children, and the concern was obvious since none are gun owners- hence, they are afraid of firearms.

    Apples and oranges i guess, i have an ancient Ithaca Pump .12 gauge thats my "door" gun and i would'nt part with it for the world.

    So, i guess i'll probably look for someone whom is interested and see that it gets a good home.

    Your info however, is great.

    Can;t add more than Mark C. has said/ Used to collect this pistol. Basically you have matched gun except mag, which is very common. Small trigger guard, and a better fit and finish than the later guns. I would keep it if it was me but I think it will bring $300 on gunbroker, Start at 1.00 and let it go. Unless Walt has already got it from you which would be perfectly fine. nambu

    AHHUMmmmm.....!I hope someone isn't using this FORUM as a medium to Purchase Items from Members and trying to Circumvent the Rules...Read the Posting Guidelines......If it is detected that this is the case the perpetrator will have His/Her gunbroker privilages revolked without further comment......

    Values (from the Standard Catalog of Military Firearms, 2nd Edition):

    Exc. - $350
    V.G. - $250
    Good - $200
    Fair - $150

    Actually, these pre-WWII Type 14 pistols were pretty good pistols. Unfortunately, the lack of available ammunition has kept the market for them pretty well depressed.

    yes, there are ways to ship the gun to an FFL holding shop if you choose to...

    no, you cannot ship the gun to a private individual...

    the best way is to request a copy of the FFL docs from a liscensed shop and send it there...

    a private individual may than go to that shop and purchase the piece legaly...

    yes, ammo is available if you look hard enough...

    if you have any more questions about what you need to do to be legal, safe, correct, and have a paper trail just email me at the shop...

    i can also point you towards spare parts, rproduction holsters, and ammo scources if neede4d and desired.
