barrel heat up?
heres another question lol. if metal shrinks when it is colder, and does the opposite when heated (expands), why is it you lose accuracy when you shoot a big bore rifle repeatedly? (5 shots in under 3 minutes). wouldnt that make the barrel tighter against the bullet and less room for movement when its traveling through the barrel?

The hot barrel accuracy problem has nothing to do with how tighly the lands grip the slug. It has to do with the fact that, no matter how high-quality, no peice of steel is truly flawless. Hence, you will have some parts denser than others. The more dense steel will not expand to the same dimensions as the steel with more impurities. So, on a miniscule level, the bore is no longer straight until the steel cools to the temperature at which it was worked. Modern technology for forging alloys, annealing, cryogenics, etc. has minimized this problem compared to yore. But it still exists.
