    getting the rem. finish off is the hard part. Brownell's makes a stripper for this or you can soak the stock in laquer thinner. I use a BRASS brush to remove the finish from the checkering. when reapplying the new finish carfuly stay away from the checkered parts untill the last coat or two.

    If your going to use linseed oil, just make sure that you allow enough drying time between coats. Use as little oil as possible, just enough to completely cover the stock, and no more until it has dried completely. Stretch it out as much as possible. if you go to fast you will end up with a very sticky stock for a long time.
    A tooth brush could be used to get the finish out of the checkering.

    Gun control is hitting what your aiming at.
